Diamond Girl (G-Man #1) by Andrea Smith

Diamond Girl (G-Man #1) by Andrea Smith was heavily promoted when it was released,  and since that's not unusual I pretty much ignored it. Then the reviews began coming in, and since many of those were from some of my more favorite reviewers,  I started to ignore it less.

When I finally gave in and looked up the synopsis,  I was intrigued enough to buy the book outright. I'm so glad that I did! Considering the name of the series, I wasn't surprised by the twist and I don't think most people would be, but it was so well executed I forgave the spoiler. It took me a good portion of the book to decide if I liked our leading man, but I was intrigued by the heroine.  The sex appeal was steamy, but not overdone for the most part. I especially enjoyed the unusual aging of the players, so many books with this kind of plot would have gone to new adult. I think this was better. Way better.

Andrea Smith's review Apr 21, 13
(Review from the author)
"I absolutely loved writing this book. I have always wanted to do a story where some under appreciated, still 'naive' at mid-life heroine wakes up and smells the coffee. That is exactly what happened to Samantha Dennison. It is refreshing (at least to me) that sometimes a heroine can still be sexy and vital after sending her only child off to college and finally, discover her own sexuality and individuality.
Samantha was defined by those around her; those she took care of and strived to please: Jack, Lindsey, her parents. Finally, at age 35 she got the wake-up call and oh, what a call it was!
Who would have imagined the instant chemistry between Sammie and 'bad-boy' biker Slate? It was there and as much as Sammie was confused by it, Slate was infuriated by it. She was not his type of chick or was she?
Sure Slate had the omnipresent 'commitment' issues that is not so rare in this genre of book, but think about it. It's not so rare in reality either!
I hope those who haven't read 'Diamond Girl' will give it a read. For those who have and have taken time to rate and reciew: I thank you very much!"

Synopsis:
Thirty-five year old Samantha Dennison sends her only child off to college and finds herself generally feeling F-R-U-M-P-Y and lost. Her loveless marriage to 'the mannequin' has become intolerable; her daughter and best friend have both advised 'Sammie' to get a life of her own. Her husband has his own agenda which does not include her.

Sammie finally heeds their advice and takes pole-dancing lessons to get into shape and develop self-esteem, but it serves to do much more than that! The thrill of the dance and sexuality she discovers within herself is a potent mixture. She gets a part-time job as a dancer in an Indianapolis Gentleman's Club called Jewels.  She becomes the dancer known as 'Diamond' and very quickly catches the attention of a 'bad-boy' biker named 'Slate'

Slate is the ultimate 'alpha' male; however there's a problem: he simply wants it to be about exclusive sex; Sammie wants and needs more from Slate. Sammie's certain she's embarked on a dangerous relationship with the hot biker and 'prospect' member of the notorious Outlaw Motorcycle Club. She soon finds out she's totally out of her league with Slate and the dangerous people he associates with in Indianapolis. Something big is brewing in Indy; and it's not about race cars!

'Diamond Girl' will keep the reader on the edge of their seat from beginning to end; this book has it all:  passion, erotica, romance, danger and possibly more... much more.

This book is intended for mature audiences.

Making Faces by Amy Harmon

"I understand holes.  This last year I've felt like one of those snowflakes we used to make in school.  The ones where you fold the paper a certain way and then keep cutting and cutting until the paper is shredded.  That's what I look like, a paper snowflake.  And each hole has a name.  And nobody, not you, not me, can fill the holes that someone else has left. All we can do is keep each other from falling in the holes and never coming out again."

Making Faces is a new adult romance written by Amy Harmon. I generally avoid this genre, but this one came so highly recommended by several book reviewers that I finally gave in and read it.

It was very very sweet, with a young love flavor. Inspirational in a way that the reader will carry away many encouraging words after reading it. And sad in a way that isn't just brushed off after you're done and it's back on the shelf. It's about heroes and living when it would be a lot easier not to.

There is no smut at all in the book, she's a pastor's daughter and he is all about wrestling, but their love story goes above simple smut and slap and tickle.

Synopsis:
Ambrose Young was beautiful.  He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know.  She'd been reading them since she was thirteen.  But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.

Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back.  It is the story of loss.  Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity.  It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl.  This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

Only In My Dreams: Halle Pumas #5 by Dana Marie Bell

Halle Pumas #5

Panty Scale: 2

Synopsis:
Delayed gratification has its place. This wouldn't be it.

He's about to become a Hunter, one of the few trained and sanctioned to hunt down the rare rogue shifter dangerous to humans and shifters alike. Her mate's apparent desertion devastates Sarah. And his friendship with another woman threatens the bond they should be sharing and building. Maybe flirting with another man will make him sit up and take notice--and finally win Gabe's heart. It works. Almost too well.

One touch of another man's hand on Sarah's tempting body brings every ounce of Gabe's possessiveness roaring to the surface. He wastes no time making his erotic dreams of dominating her a reality--whether she's ready for it or not.

If she's not, the only place he'll ever have her is in his dreams...

Law Man (Dream Man #3) by Kristen Ashley

As much as I love romance novels, especially the smutty ones, I've never been tempted to be silly over the men the graced their pages, or their covers. Though, if I were to be tempted,  I think the men of the Dream Man series would probably tempt me the most.

Law Man is book 3 in the series. Mitch Lawson has appeared in each book since the beginning, and has always been represented as a really good guy. How can you not route for a sexy, good guy to find a women of his own? I have since the very beginning, and book 3 is his story. I was happy to see that he found someone that fit him, though no one could have predicted the handful that came with her.

The women that float through from book to book also keep bringing me back to this story. Mostly it's Elvira, but she just wouldn't be the same without the others. She is just so unrepentantly nosey while at the same time loyal, wise and cunning that you can't help but love her.

Panty Scale: 2 (disappointing, I would have liked to have seen more sexiness with the law man.)

"I was... I was... made for you?"
     "I'm a cop for a reason,  honey."
"So you were made to save me," I guessed, not sure I liked that.
"No, I was made to protect you, and you were made in a way that it would always be worth the effort."

Synopsis:
Sweet, shy Mara Hanover is in love with her neighbor. For four years, she has secretly watched her dream man from afar. Handsome police detective Mitch Lawson is way out of her league. She's a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, and there's no way a guy like Mitch would want anything to do with her. But when Mara has a leaky faucet that she can't fix, it's Mitch who comes to her rescue.

Mitch has been eyeing his beautiful neighbor for a long time. He jumps at the chance to help her, and soon their formerly platonic relationship gets very hot and heavy. But when Mara gets a disturbing phone call from her cousin's kids, she gets pulled back into the life she's tried so hard to leave behind. Can the hot law man convince Mara to let go of her past-and build a future with him?

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

If you've never read The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein you're missing out on one of the best books of our generation.  Now is the time to indulge.  Young or old, man or woman, this book is for everyone. It isn't a story about a dog, or about racing. It's a story about love, about living, about surviving the hard stuff, the stuff that hurts so badly that surviving isn't what you're sure you want to do. Its about being a better person.  It isn't all love and light inspiration,  though it's that too, it's ugly and messy and hard, just like life. Just like love.

Synopsis:
Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.

Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through.

"A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life...as only a dog could tell it."

Prototype by Cassandra Ormand

A very low key romantic suspense perfect for those days where even a lot drama within he pages of a book is too much. The plotline is unique and fun, our heroine is brilliant but a little dim, our leading man is sexy but predictably world weary and our evil villain is a genius but not what he is assumed to be. Who can ask for more?
Actually me. I hate loose ends in a story and Prototype left one homocide investigator dangling without answers. Just enough the bother the finicky reader.

Panty Scale: 1 (more insinuation than smut)

Synopsis:
Angelique Hunter works for a cutting edge robotics company programming and designing some of the most lifelike robots in the world. Her latest accomplishment is a robot created in her own image. A perfect replica of herself down to the smallest detail. Her only regret is that her invention is being sold exclusively for personal entertainment. Everything changes the day she discovers her skills have been used to build a killing machine. Now she's running for her life, pretending to be one of her high-tech creations, and praying that no one discovers her secret.

Hooked: Sea of Destiny #1 by K.C. Falls

For all that there were a reasonable amount of pages (291), it didn't feel like the characters developed much personality along the way. It might be just it's the first book in the series and the author is laying the ground work, but as it was I found it difficult to care about any of them. Except maybe the monkey. To complete the feeling of disappointment was also that the story just stopped. Not a cliffhanger exactly, it almost felt like a printer running out of ink. It didn't make any sense to end it there in that way, and it certainly didn't leave me looking forward to the next book.

What did strike me was the secondary foundation of a brother and sister that grow up with a mother that is mentally ill. An insanity that steals their childhoods and subjects them to torturous, unnecessary medical care and the trauma of hiding, being unable to trust anyone, and waiting for that parent to completely crack. who do these kids grow up to be? What drives them in their adult lives? How do they get past being broken and find their adult selves? I don't know how much the author will explore and expand on this line, but it is the one thing that might make me come back for #2.

Panty Scale: 2

Synopsis:
Morgan Wolf is a complicated man living an uncomplicated life on a mega yacht he doesn't own. He lets women believe what they think they see.  It's easier that way.  No woman would want the truth he's never shared.

Lara Lamb is sailing away from what she thought she wanted. Because she wanted the wrong things and always for the wrong reason.

Lara sees Morgan for what he is:  a rich, shallow Peter Pan who happens to have a cute monkey. Trouble is she's only right about the monkey.

She's everything Morgan never wanted.  She makes the easy way look like the coward's way. Ready to take the chance, Morgan struggles with how to let Lara closer than anyone's ever been. Will his unspeakable wounds be too deep for her to bear?

This is a full length (50,000 words) novel that can be read as a standalone or continued with Wrecked (Part 2) and Rescued (Part 3).
*This is adult contemporary romance with scenes and language aimed at a mature audience.*

Beyond Pain: Beyond Book 3 by Kit Rocha

Book 3 of the Beyond series covers the O'Kane affair between Bren, refugee from Eden's military police force, and Six, sector 3 escapee. Neither one of them know anything beyond pain and hopelessness, now, together they have the chance to find more.

Like all of the O'Kane books #3 is beyond hot. The sex flows smooth and easy and often in all ways and flavors. This is one of my favorite dystopian series because the characters and the world they live in is so vividly painted. No matter how the sex comes to be in sector 4 it is a beautiful thing because the O'Kanes are just trying to have something more, something beautiful something beyond all the work, dirt, and pain they struggle with the rest of the time. Bren and Six's story was no different except with the two of them, they get something more from the pain.

Panty Scale: 5.5
(bdsm elements, menage scenes, f/f scenes)

Synopsis:
A woman with no future…

Live fast, die young–anything else is a fantasy for Six. She’s endured the worst the sectors had to throw at her, but falling in with Dallas O’Kane’s Sector Four gang lands her in a whole new world of danger. They’re completely open about everything, including their sexuality–but she hasn’t survived this long by making herself vulnerable. Especially not to men as dominant as Brendan Donnelly.

A man without a past…

Bren is a killer, trained in Eden and thrown to the sectors. His one outlet is pain, in the cage and in the bedroom, and emotion is a luxury he can’t afford–until he meets Six. Protecting her soothes him, but it isn’t enough. Her hunger for touch sparks a journey of erotic discovery where anything goes–voyeurism, flogging, rough sex. He has only one rule: he won’t share her.

In Bren’s arms, Six is finally free to let go. But his obsession with the man who made him a monster could destroy the fragile connection they’ve forged, and cost him the one thing that makes him feel human–her love.

True Love's Fire: Hell Yeah! #12 by Sable Hunter

The Hell Yeah series is nearly nauseating in it's sweetness and Happily Ever After endings, but there are times when that sweetness and hope for better becomes as necessary as air.

I've read a lot of heartbreakingly sad books lately, and that's what lead me back to Sable Hunter's promise of a Happily Ever After again.

Number 12 in the Hell Yeah series was just a short story (164 pages) in the overall series and part of the special Red Hot Valentine author collaboration. Lia Houston and Doctor Scott Walker (Aaron McCoy's neuro specialist in book 11) don't believe in love. Together the discover what they believed was wrong. Not much in the way of conflict and obstacles for them to the bed or the heart, but as I said, I really needed easy.

Scores a 5 on the CNC Panty Scale. Lots and lots of sex, not at all appropriate for under 18. Sable Hunter offers what is called "Sweeter Versions" of her stories for younger or more sensitive readers that are smut free. I'm sure one will be offered for this book as well soon.

Synopsis:
A Valentine's gift for you, only 99 cents for a limited amount of time

Continuing the Hell Yeah! Series with book 12

While vacationing at a cabin in the Ozarks, Scott Walker - Austin neurobiologist, gets snowed-in and has to be rescued by local, Lia Houston. She brings him food, helps him fix his heat and tries to get his car on the road. A monster storm has paralyzed the mountain and as she’s trying to chain his car to her truck, a huge ice-covered limb falls, crushing the front of her pick-up and almost flattening Scott. If she hadn’t moved fast, he’d be a memory – but the brave action on her part comes with a price, she’s injured and stuck with Mr. Know-It-All until the weather abates. Scott doesn’t believe in love, much less love at First Sight. So when he meets Lia, he welcomes the attraction, but fights the tenderness with every breath in his body. Join Sable Hunter as she chronicles their journey from lust to love with a lot of fireworks in between. They meet at the dawn of the New Year, and by Valentine’s Day the fires of True Love are burning bright.

Sweet Dreams: Colorado Mountain #2 by Kristen Ashley

I usually really like Kristen Ashley's books, but this one, at 688 pages, just seemed to go on forever. I like long books, but describing every single outfit and desert was entirely too much.

That aside, I didn't hate the book. I liked the characters, I really liked hating some of the characters and the clincher was perfect.

** It rated a 2 on the Panty scale - which means it's inappropriate for those under 17, but safe for those with more delicate smut needs.

Synopsis:
Lauren Grahame is looking to reinvent herself. After leaving her cheating husband, Lauren moves to Carnal, Colorado, and gets a job as a waitress in a biker bar called Bubba's. It's a nothing job in a nowhere joint . . . until Tatum Jackson walks in. Lauren has never seen a man with such good looks, muscles, and attitude. But when he insults her, Lauren doesn't want anything to do with him. Too bad for Lauren he's also the bar's part owner and bartender.

When the rough-around-the-edges Tate meets the high-class Lauren, he thinks she won't fit in at Bubba's. Yet there's more to Lauren than meets the eye, and Tate soon sets his mind on claiming her as his own. Before long, the desire burning between them is heating up the cold mountain air. But when violence strikes the town, Tate must reveal a dark secret to Lauren-one that may put an end to their sweet dreams.

Trancendence by Shay Savag

Just WOW.....

Transcendence is unlike anything out there, not even close. He is a literal caveman, she is not from around there, he not only can't talk, but can't wrap his mind around it, and from the sounds of it, she never stops talking. Despite their differences it is an incredibly sweet love story.

It would have been easy for the author to write their story from her POV, instead she wrote it from his. This brings the reader along to experience with him his frustration, confusion, fear, sorrow, and joy and in the process you can't help but fall in love with Ehd too.

I want to go back and read it again right now.

Synopsis:
It’s said that women and men are from two different planets when it comes to communication, but how can they overcome the obstacles of prehistoric times when one of them simply doesn’t have the ability to comprehend language? Ehd’s a caveman living on his own in a harsh wilderness. He’s strong and intelligent, but completely alone. When he finds a beautiful young woman in his pit trap, it’s obvious to him that she is meant to be his mate. He doesn’t know where she came from, she’s wearing some pretty odd clothing, and she makes a lot of noises with her mouth that give him a headache. Still, he’s determined to fulfill his purpose in life – provide for her, protect her, and put a baby in her. Elizabeth doesn’t know where she is or exactly how she got there. She’s confused and distressed by her predicament, and there’s a caveman hauling her back to his cavehome. She’s not at all interested in Ehd’s primitive advances, and she just can’t seem to get him to listen. No matter what she tries, getting her point across to this primitive but beautiful man is a constant – and often hilarious – struggle. With only each other for company, they must rely on one another to fight the dangers of the wild and prepare for the winter months. As they struggle to coexist, theirs becomes a love story that transcends language and time.

Alien Rule: Clans of Kalquor Book 2 by Tracy St. John

Tracy St. John reworked and republished this 2010 story adding over 100 new pages that filled it out and made it even better than the first time around. It is, of course, the same story, but with so much more depth and detail.

The race of Kalquorians are going to be extinct unless earth helps them. The two species are almost exactly the same (with only a couple anatomical points), but the differences are enough that psychotically religious earth wants nothing to do with it and is willing (reads:EAGER) to go to war to stop it. What is Kalquor to do but take what earth refuses to give. It isn't as if the women won't be better off.

This one has way more sex than most people want to read. Fortunately, I am not most people. If you're at all sensitive to smut, lots and lots of smut, skip this one. I for one think the story is worth wading through all the naked bodies.

Synopsis:
Marked for execution, Jessica McInness knows joining the enemy is her only hope for survival. When Kalquor's crown princes arrive to rescue her, she discovers the three alien men aren't quite what she hoped for in lifelong mates. Arrogant and brutish, the royal clan infuriates her - and awakens passions as no other men have. The Kalquorians are determined to seduce the temperamental woman who inflames their lusts. The relentlessly pursue the hesitant Earther, resorting to forceful means to claim her as their mate. But love comes at a high price when the princes' choice of a princess incites a rebellion on Kalquor and endangers Jessica's life.

Mild BDSM including captive/forced seduction, anal play/intercourse, bondage, Dom/sub play, homoerotic situations (m/m), and multiple sexual partners (m/f/m/m).

Theirs To Keep: Tangled Hearts Book 1 by Maya Banks

Being a menage book I expected some seriously explicit scenes liberally through out the book. I was stunned that the threesome didn't even consider sex until 62% into the book. I was pleasantly surprised that the story held its own and carried well without being propped up with sex. Not that there's anything wrong with a book that revolves heavily around sex, I'm not going to complain about that, but it's nice to see some that don't need to.

Synopsis:
When Cade Winslow and Merrick Sullivan find Elle hiding in the cabinet of a gun store, they know they can’t just walk away from the fragile woman with no memory of who she is or who tried to kill her. Merrick is training for the title shot in the heavyweight division as a mixed martial artist and can’t afford distractions, but neither can he turn his back on the woman who tugs at his heartstrings.

Elle feels safe with her two protectors, and the longer she spends with them, the more she realizes that she has no desire to remember her past. Not when it could compromise her future with Cade and Merrick.

Cade has his own set of concerns when it comes to Elle, and it quickly becomes clear to the two men that for the first time in their friendship, a woman is coming between them. But what if they just kept her there? Between them. Where she belongs.

Stealing Fire: Kingdom of Kell #2 by Angela Castle

I liked book one of the Kingdom of Kell series and the way it ended left me looking forward to book two. When I finally settled down to read it I was disappointed that there was quite a lot of 'in book' time that passed before book two began. All the important stuff was there in the story basically, but I think the relationship development that was skimmed over would have added depth to the story. I also would have liked to have heard more from Penny's husband. Though maybe I was just wanting to actually see him suffer more because of her loss as well as physically. It was a good light read with plenty of sexy to satisfy my smut requirements without it being emotionally taxing. I really needed that from this book.

Synopsis:
In the land of the Kell, Tuthal and Tamara are content in their new relationship, until Tuthal uses Tamara as bait to steal back the soul he sold long ago.
Adalardo, King of Kell, has found his queen in Penny, an abused housewife from Earth. Adalardo must challenge Penny's husband in order to claim her as his queen.
The soul demon, who is angered over the betrayal of Tuthal, seeks revenge, targeting not only Tuthal but all those around him.
When the demon strikes a blow right into the heart of both men, they must join forces in hope of defeating the evil that has taken their women.

Holding On: Lights of Peril #1 by AC Bextor

I read an average of 35 books a month, that's roughly 420 a year, and I'm 45 years old. Never ever out of all those books have I wanted to pitch a book or ereader at the wall. Never. Until now. I actually had a serious discussion with myself about how expensive that would be, but I still REALLY want to pitch that damn book at the wall! Anyone that's planning to read this book, and I recommend it for anyone that enjoys the genre, I'm telling you to invest in the real actual book, not the ebook. That way you can at least satisfy yourself with the papery thud as it hits the wall and slides to the floor.

It was a GOOD book! It was well written and interesting, the characters were alive and you couldn't help but to fall in love with them. I thought I had the twist figured out, but I didn't even get half of it, and that's pretty good for me. It's incredibly emotional and involved, you'll need tissue, a lot of it.

Synopsis:
How does a person decide if their own life is worth sacrificing to save another?

Shame holds onto a past that haunts him. Damaged by the parents that should have taught him unconditional love; they imprisoned him with violence and disregard. Even now, Shame struggles to find both the independence and love he deserves.

Knowing the blood that runs through him is stained merely by reputation, Hem seeks acceptance while he searches for ways to redeem himself in the eyes of those that have judged him his entire life. Together the two have committed themselves to one purpose; protecting those they love the most.

Mace Cash is Hem’s younger sister. Although they share the same mother, Mace’s father despises Hem and his position in the family.

Sadey Lyons has loved Hem all of her life. Swearing to save herself for him, she’s determined to wait for him for as long as it takes; wanting only for him to see her as the woman she has become and not the little girl he’s always cherished.

When Hem and Shame meet Doc, the President of Lights of Peril Motorcycle Club, their lives take a dramatic turn. Finally escaping from a past that has controlled them, they find themselves living free. But neither of them have known peace for long... This is their story of love, loyalty, and heartbreak.

Bear Naked: Halle Shifters #3 by Dana Marie Bell

Out of all the shifters I like the bears the best and the Halle Shifters series lets me play out that latent Teddy Bear love with a good dose of sexy without it being scarey weird.
Bear Naked seemed like a more involved and complete story than the first two books. We're starting to see the prophecy play out and all the pieces moving into place. It was good but I can't keep from wondering who's story is next and how long it will take before it's here?

Synopsis:
To win a frightened heart, you have to bare your own.

Any woman would be eager to be Ryan Williams’s mate. Any woman but Glory Walsh. The sexy bear shifter is beautiful, strong and persistent, she’ll give him that. But Glory’s past taught her one simple truth: people leave. She can’t get past the fact he left her once before. Okay, so he had a good reason, and he did come back. Try convincing her emotions.

When Glory finally agrees to a date, Ryan feels like shouting hallelujah. He only left his mate to hunt down the man who’d shot her, but convincing the stubborn woman she has a permanent place at his side is tougher than he thought.

Their date takes a turn for the bizarre when Glory thanks Ryan for the series of romantic gifts—gifts Ryan never sent. It seems her past is coming back to bite her, and before it has a chance to sink its teeth in and tear her out of his life, Ryan will have to bare it all, right down to his soul, to protect the woman he loves. Even from herself.

Warning: This title contains explicit sex, graphic language, a blue-haired heroine, and a hero who isn’t afraid to get all kinds of naked.

Bay's Mercenary (Unearthly World #1) CL Scholey

I really love a scifi romance where the alien the leading lady falls in love with is truly *alien*. Not many of those going around, but this is one of the better ones.

Synopsis:
Bay went from tortured human captive to exotic alien pet in a heartbeat. Zargonnii warrior mercenaries are like nothing she has ever seen before. What do they want from her? The unearthly world Bay is taken to is fascinating, frightening and a lot different from Earth. Zargonnii males have never seen a small, vulnerable female. Their females are huge, aggressive, dominant; and the two sexes live apart for safety reasons.

Zane finds himself saddled with a bald, unusual pet Earth female. Females are anything but vulnerable in his world. This female is an oddity, and for some reason, his new pet brings on his mating cycle. Zane is mortified, until he discovers this intelligent pet of his has a secret—she’s no pet at all. It takes everything in Zane’s power to control the temptation of his kind’s breeding habits—until he can control it no more.

Wild Man (Dream Man #2) Kristen Ashley

I've never hid the fact that I read a lot, but out of everything I read it is rare to find forty-somethings in a leading role, especially in a popular book. You would be more likely to find a book with a serious lasting relationships with a purple alien with no nipples than one with forty-somethings that are actually living like they are in the prime of their lives. But Kristen Ashley makes it work, makes believable, makes it seriously sexy, and doesn't even have to throw in purple aliens.

Synopsis:
She's about to walk on the wild side . . .

While filling the display case in her bakery, the bell over the door sounds and Tessa O'Hara looks up to see the man of her dreams. Within thirty seconds he asks her out for a beer. But after four months of dating, she discovers he's an undercover DEA agent-and he's investigating her possible role in her ex-husband's drug business. For Tess, this means their relationship is over.

Brock disagrees. He's committed to his anti-drug mission, but he's fallen in love with the beautiful woman who's as sweet as her cupcakes-and he'll do anything to win her back. Standing between Tess and Brock are their own exes, one of them a drug lord who's determined to get what he wants. Now as danger threatens, can Brock break the rules he's lived by and let loose his wild side to protect the woman he loves?

I love finding those series that are well written just won't fit into any single genre or definition. The Westernwind series certainly fits that requirement. It is post-apocalyptic, historical western, shapeshifter/vampire paranormal, erotic romance with a tiny bit of old world prudish, and alien invasion scifi. Best of all, it all comes together to make a really exciting new world.

Prime Reaper is book 3 in the series, and I was a little worried it would drag since Danielle and Ari's story *seemed* to have been told in book 2, Reaper's Revenge. I was wrong, their story hadn't even brushed to surface, so there was no dragging! In fact, the author introduced a couple new elements in this book that make me really excited to see played out in the following books.

If you're looking for something different to read the Reapers in Westernwind are more than qualified to deliver on the promise!

Synopsis:
Prime Reaper Arawn Gehdrin never expected to find a woman who would be willing to share her life with him. As the head of the Reaper unit, he was feared and loathed. Men stepped aside for him, women hid from him and children had nightmares when he showed up in their town. But that wasn't the case with Danielle Brewster, the sheriff's strong-willed daughter. With flashing eyes and a saucy grin, she set out to win the Reaper's heart and capture his very soul.

Danielle saw only the good in Arawn Gehdrin and understood his loneliness, for that same loneliness stared back at her from the mirror each morning. His smile set her heart racing and his dark good looks sent shivers of desire coursing through her body. There was no way she was going to let him get away from her.

Beyond the western mountains lurks an evil the Reapers thought destroyed. The Ceannus — alien creatures hell-bent on enslaving humankind—had returned to Terra with a vile secret meant to cripple the Reapers. With them, they had brought horrendous death for the people of Terra.

Note: While a stand alone story, it is recommend the books be read in order for better reader enjoyment and understanding. [They *really* need to be read in order or you'll be lost!]

Alien Embrace is book one of the Clans of Kalquor series by Tracy St. John. It was first released in September of 2010 and then re-released July 2013. I read the earlier release this time last year, and I finally found myself in a place where I wanted to see what came with the re-release.

The new and improved version has about 100 more pages give or take and everything in general is shiney and polished. The scenes are filled out and everything holds more depth while telling the same story. One thing that holds the Kalquor books high on my favorites list is that I find the religious-political-social symbology of our world both fascinating and frightening. The other thing is that it is so hot that cold showers are required to get through to the end. I'm glad I took the time to reread this new version of my old favorite.

The synopsis holds a content warning that should be emphasized strongly. If you are at all smut sensitive or are bothered by forced seduction, M/M interaction, or lead characters relating past sexual abuse, including rape, THIS IS NOT THE SERIES FOR YOU!

Synopsis:
Amelia Ryan fled Earth’s fanatically religious government to live quietly among the aliens of Plasius. Her life of peace shatters when a three-man clan from the planet Kalquor kidnaps her and holds her prisoner.
With their people poised on the verge of extinction, the Kalquorians are determined to have Amelia for their mate. Amelia is equally determined to escape. But when her body thrills to the ruthless domination of her captors, she finds herself surrendering to desires she never imagined possible.
RATING: Carnal/Erotica—mild BDSM. Captive situation/forced seduction. Multiple sexual partners. Retrospective MOM and rape of the heroine--not by the hero

I picked up Archer's Voice after reading a glowing recommendation on Aestas Book Blog and i wasn't even a little bit disappointed. It was courageous, inspiring, and incredibly sexy. It's a stand alone novel that is actually attached to the Sign of Love series. The book was good enough that I'm looking forward to exploring other books in the series.

Synopsis:
When Bree Prescott arrives in the sleepy, lakeside town of Pelion, Maine, she hopes against hope that this is the place where she will finally find the peace she so desperately seeks. On her first day there, her life collides with Archer Hale, an isolated man who holds a secret agony of his own. A man no one else sees. Archer's Voice is the story of a woman chained to the memory of one horrifying night and the man whose love is the key to her freedom. It is the story of a silent man who lives with an excruciating wound and the woman who helps him find his voice. It is the story of suffering, fate, and the transformative power of love.

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE NOVEL. The first three books in the series need not be read to enjoy this book. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
